Styles of 65: "Carefree in Arnel" (Spiegel, Spring-Summer 1965)

The outfits below are at once relaxed and stylish—and this is why the 1960s is one of my favourite fashion eras!  The coordinating skirts and tops were available in different colours, shown as thumbnails on the same catalogue page as the main photograph.

The garments are all made of "triacetate", a "semi-synthetic" material made of chemically treated wood pulp.  Like fully synthetic materials, triacetate was easy to care for, and like natural fibres it was breathable.  In other words, "carefree"!

dot-happy blouse
Graceful bare-arm beauty with a flattering Chelsea collar, a soft flowing tie.  Soft, crease-resistant Arnel triacetate crepe inner-outer is color-cued to both smart skirts.  Machine washable, little or no ironing.
shapely sheath skirt
Breeze through busy days looking great in our slim sheath of "Seafarer", the wrinkle-free Arnel triacetate knit with a fine sharkskin appearance.  Softly gathered at waist front for easy fit; fully lined. Machine washable, little or no ironing.
THE BLAZER SUIT
The look all America loves!  Boldly striped blazer of crease-free Arnel triacetate and cotton puff cord flashes gold-color buttons, pretend pockets.  Perfect topper for stay-in pleat skirt of Arnel knit with a sharkskin finish.  Hand wash, practically no ironing.
exotic scroll print shell
Perfectly lovely in soft, wrinkle-free Arnel triacetate crepe... print is designed to join either skirt in perfect color harmony.  Softly fitted overblouse has flattering jewel neckline and sits at the hemline, buttons in back.  Machine wash—forget about ironing!
swinging pleats stay in!
Swinging pleats whirl out so gracefully... and what a joy to know they need so little care!  Fashioned of "Seafarer" Arnel triacetate knit that looks, feels like fine sharkskin.  Wrinkle-shedding, of course.  Machine wash, drip dry, little iron.
