Vogue Printed Pattern News, 1959

I'm now roughly three-quarters of the way through my survey of the mid-twentieth century.  And what better way to say farewell to the 1950s than a selection of Vogue Patterns, as depicted on the covers of Vogue Printed Pattern News?  They show most of the main looks of the year, as interpreted for home dressmakers.

Marvellous way to embark upon the new fashion year... this slim wool jersey dress in a brilliant explorer-blue. 9651
9739, Sizes 10 to 18

4023: Belted sheath with caped jacket.

9595: checked coat dress.
186: classic coat; matching skirt; tailored blouse.

4006: suit and ascot.

4059: tweed suit, vest included.

196: dress and belted jacket

199: dress and jacket
... bound for most holiday parties, a bell-skirted dress (see cover for full view), a matching jacket in gold mateclassé.

My mother used to make her own clothes around this time, and she always said that Vogue patterns were the best: stylish and wearable at the same time!
